PROJECTS AND DATA ANALYST
DEPARTMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE
CITY OF WORCESTER

 

The City of Worcester is seeking applicants for the position of Projects and Data Analyst to provide analytical, technical and occasional project management support to the Department of Sustainability and Resilience (DSR). Under the direction of the Director of Sustainability Projects.  This position will contribute to the implementation of the actions of the Green Worcester Plan, which coordinates sustainability and resilience activities and projects throughout the City of Worcester.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  •  Work as part of project-based interdisciplinary team on projects related to building energy, waste management, environmental data, climate change resilience, and similar topics.
  • Gather & analyze energy and other sustainability data managed by the DSR for the City and its community.
  • Maintain accurate municipal energy production and consumption data in web-based tool MassEnergyInsight.
  • Lead on energy and sustainability reporting, such as CDP, EIA, LBER, and Green Communities.
  • Maintain the records and analyze the municipal renewable energy production and net metering credits; develop associated draft interdepartmental invoices.
  • Perform project-specific technical calculations to estimate sustainability and resilience impacts and cost/ benefit analysis.
  • Use spatial digital tools to advance meaningful community engagement of DSR work (project-based) – e.g. via crowdsource maps and StoryMaps.
  • Assist with electric vehicle charging stations’ software monitoring and management.
  • Develop engaging presentation materials through Power Point or other media, explaining technical and analytical information in an engaging way.
  • Analyze survey results and communicate results in a straightforward format that supports informed decision-making.
  • Assist with maintaining technical content on the Green Worcester dashboard.
  • Staff approximately 10 evening public meetings annually, taking notes and managing the online components of each meeting.
  • Prepare deliverables including memos, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist with grant applications, administration and reporting.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of a wide range of sustainability and resilience topics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with ArcGIS; working knowledge of Informational Mapping Platforms, including Crowdsource Maps.
  • Ability to examine data from different primary and secondary data sources and create meaningful analyses.
  • Ability to express complex data analysis in a concise and accessible written form.
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse, and multicultural community
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in managing multiple projects and prioritizing multiples tasks and demands.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and think creatively.
  • Regular onsite attendance is required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Analysis, Economics, Environmental Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Public Policy or related discipline.
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated research and analytics experience in a professional and/or academic setting (internship experience will be considered) related to energy and/or sustainability metrics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • One (1) year experience using ArcGIS software.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four (4) years of demonstrated research and analytics experience in a professional and/or academic setting (internship experience will be considered) related to energy and/or sustainability metrics.
  • Two (2) years of experience having used ArcGIS or related informational mapping platforms to develop engaging maps.

 SALARY RANGE: $67,519 - $78,080 annually, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
