Nonprofit Roundtable: DEI Initiatives and Where They Can Go Wrong
New for 2024 is the Chamber's Nonprofit Roundtable! We will be meeting quarterly on various topics to bring our members in the nonprofit sector together around various learning opportunities.
DEI Initiatives and Where They Can go Wrong
DEI initiatives done right can help an organization create positive cultural change, and proactively address systemic issues before they result in complaints of discrimination. DEI initiatives do, however, tend to draw scrutiny both from internal and external stakeholders and, if done incorrectly, can result in legal, employee relations, and even public relations problems.
Join Brigid Harrington, a partner at Bowditch, to discuss strategies for administering DEI initiatives, such as employee surveys, climate interventions, and interest groups, in a way that maximizes the benefit but limits the risk to your organization.
Brigid Harrington is an accomplished Employment & Labor attorney with a depth of experience assisting higher education clients with matters involving civil rights compliance including Title IX, VAWA, ADA, Title VI, Title VII, and other laws and regulations related to discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, and retaliation. She helps clients navigate complex employment and labor issues, defending employers in the state and federal courts of Massachusetts, as well as claims made to the federal Department of Education or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination or other regulatory bodies.
